How do you find a good Chiropractor in Bristol?

How do you find a good Chiropractor in Bristol?

Dean Matthews · 3 minute read

Our chiropractors are more than happy to explain what you should be looking for when searching for a Chiropractor in Bristol. We are also proud to say our clinic offers one of the most rounded approaches to chiropractic treatment in Bristol. We have written this guide to help you find the best Chiropractor near you and additionally, the British Chiropractic Association also has a lot of helpful tips and advice on what to expect when visiting a chiropractor.

1. GCC Registration is essential

  1. Check that your Chiropractor is registered with the General Chiropractic Council, by using the GCC Chiropractor search tool for Chiropractors based in Bristol. Since 1999 it has been a legal requirement for Chiropractors to be registered with the General Chiropractic Council, and is illegal to call yourself a Chiropractor without University training and full registration.

2. Check that seeing a Chiropractor is a suitable course of action

Prior to an appointment with us, our friendly team at The Hanham Clinic will be happy to discuss your symptoms, to see if Chiropractic is an appropriate route. We can’t tell you for definite whether we can help until we have assessed you thoroughly, but we can usually gauge if your symptoms fall within our remit, or whether you might need other medical attention.

3. Ask your friends and family for a recommendation of a Chiropractor

A large proportion of people visiting a Chiropractor will do so after receiving a recommendation from a friend or family member. Many people will also be visiting us for the first time, so it is good to do your research and learn what type of approach and care you might expect to receive.
Reading through information on their website and looking at local reviews is a good idea, which leads us onto our fourth point in some more detail.

4. Read the local reviews

We advise that you check the reviews of a practice or a practitioner before attending. Naturally you might find a mixture of reviews, but keep a look out for trends that sound concerning. Unlike Chiropractic, some professions aren’t regulated and so you may get unqualified individuals carrying out certain treatments, so it is good to check what the general feedback is. Google, Facebook and yell.com all provide useful reviews and you can see our reviews here.

5. Check that the techniques and approaches offered are suitable for you

You may have experienced different types of treatment in the past and have a preference to what you feel works best for you. Chiropractors usually offer a range of different techniques and approaches to helping you recover, and here at The Hanham Clinic we tailor things to suit your needs and preferences, jointly deciding with you upon what is best. A “one treatment fits all” approach is not something that we agree with. Some Chiropractors may want to block book large amounts of appointments, whilst others like ourselves- prefer more of a step-by-step approach, where we really tailor things to your needs.

6. Find someone you can work with as a team and who puts you at ease

We feel it is important to have an open and honest working relationship with your Chiropractor, as often achieving a goal is a two way process. You should feel able to ask all the necessary questions and be given a good understanding of what is being carried out, how much things should cost and what the process might involve. We always keep communication pathways completely open with our patients and encourage you to ask questions if there is anything you don’t fully understand.
