Elbow pain

Specialists in Elbow pain relief

Our Chiropractors are more than familiar when it comes to elbow pain…

As well as the usual back and neck problems that we encounter on a daily basis, elbow pain (in particular tennis elbow and golfers elbow) are conditions that we frequently deal with.

What is causing my elbow discomfort?

Elbow pain is very common and typically occurs when the elbow has been repeatedly overused. This can be due to the hobbies that we have, or the demands of everyday work, which can lead to irritation of certain structures in the elbow. Ironically, tennis elbow can be caused by a lot of other things than just tennis- and the same goes for golfer's elbow!

Additionally, the elbow can be affected by a range of other conditions, such as osteo-arthritis (wear and tear), rheumatoid arthritis (auto-immune type arthritis) and other inflammatory conditions, or by infection or trauma.

What are the common causes of elbow discomfort?

  • Tendonitis (inflamed tendons) or tendonopathy (long term tendon problems) to the top of the forearm region
  • Tennis elbow (known as lateral epicondylitis)
  • Golfers elbow (known as medial epidoncdylitis)
  • Biceps tendonitis (inflammation to the biceps tendon) at the front of the elbow
  • Triceps tendonitis, at the back of the elbow

What are the symptoms of tennis elbow or golfers elbow?

  • Pain around the elbow when lifting or bending the arm
  • Discomfort or associated weakness when gripping objects
  • Pain when twisting your forearm
  • You may also experience pain when trying to extend the arm fully straight

What are the main anatomical structures in the elbow?

The elbow consists of 3 bones that have cartilage around them to protect the end of the bones, that interact to form two joints within the elbow. These bones are then held together by a collection of ligaments. The forearm and upper arm muscles then attach around the elbow via tendons, that can often become problematic in overuse type injuries of the elbow. There are also a number of important blood vessels and nerves that travel through and around the elbow.

Our Chiropractors can assist you.

The first thing our Chiropractors will aim to do is provide you with a diagnosis and advice regarding next possible steps.

As Chiropractors, we provide much more than just joint manipulation; we focus on treatment of the soft tissues, exercises and stretches, and can use a range of techniques to address and elbow complaint.
