Neck Pain

Our Chiropractors specialise in treating neck pain...

Neck pain, neck stiffness, the classic "cricked neck" and the associated shoulder discomfort are all things our Chiropractors provide help with on a daily basis.

We are no strangers to neck pain and since the pandemic began, where an increased number of us started working from home, we have seen a large number of patients with neck problems and the associated symptoms.

What could be causing my neck problem?

We see a variety of neck problems in our clinic; some are from sudden injuries or trauma, such as a whiplash type injury- however many of the cases we see come on as a gradual problem, that can sometimes radiate to the shoudler or upper back region.

There are a number of factors that might be causing your neck complaint:

  • Repetitive strain type injuries to the neck muscles caused from prolonged rounded posture (known as upper crossed syndrome)
  • Sudden acute injuries to the neck such as whiplash or impact type injuries
  • The classic "cricked neck" where the neck suddenly locks in a certain position
  • Conditions that affect the nerves in the neck that cause symptoms into the arm, hand or fingers
  • Osteo-arthritis is also a potential cause for neck pain

What can a Chiropractor do for neck pain?

Chiropractic is a recognised approach for neck pain, that can often help with pain associated with the muscles and joints of the neck and shoudler region.

We have seen a large number of patients with neck complaints at the clinic and the treatment approach varies from person to person. Assuming that Chiropractic management of your neck complaint is deemed suitable, methods to deal with neck pain can include a combination of the following:

  • Spinal manipulation to involved areas to the neck and upper back
  • Stretching and/or mobilisation of joints and muscles
  • Massage or trigger point treatment to surrounding tight muscles
  • Postural and ergonomic advice
  • Discussion around general pain management and coping mechanisms (if appropriate)
  • Advice regarding exercise and stretching/self help

Have I got a trapped nerve in my neck?

If you are experiencing neck or shoulder pain and associated discomfort (such as: tingling, pins and needles, numbness or reduced power in your arm or hand), then it is quite possible that you may be suffering from a "trapped nerve" in the neck. Some people with a nerve complaint in their neck also experience discomfort referred to the shoulder blade region, that is described like a dull ache.

During a consultation our Chiropractors will screen for this type of problem before recommending any type of treatment.
