Knee and hip pain
Our Chiropractors can assist you with your knee or hip pain
Are you experiencing knee problems?
Knee pain is a surpsingly common problem that affects people of all ages, shapes and sizes. Our Chiropractors are fully trained to help you establish the cause of your discomfort, whether it's pain around the kneecap (patella), or whether its a deeper kind of knee discomfort. It is a myth that once you have "bad knees" that you have to put up with them.
Have your knee pain assessed by our experts
With knee pain or discomfort, the first step is to obtain a diagnosis and establish the exact cause of your knee pain. We conduct a thorough assessment to look at potential causes to your knee pain. When assessing a knee complaint we often look at:
- General posture and alignment
- Foot and ankle positioning when standing
- Knee mobility
- Biomechanics ("body" mechanics)
- Knee range of motion and strength
- Any possible tenderness or pain around the knee
What are the most common causes of knee pain?
There are a variety of causes of knee pain and often there can be a combination of factors present. Some common causes of knee pain we see in clinic include:
- Conditions relating to over-use of the knee ie. repetitive strain leading to tendinitis
- Problems related to ageing, affecting the joint (osteo-arhtitis)
- Issues arising from faulty tracking movements of the patella
- Trauma to the knee resulting in ligamentous injury (eg. MCL sprain)
- Injuries to the meniscus- the "stablising cushion" within the knee joint; this can include a meniscus tear or gradual degenerative changes
- Referred pain to your knee from another area of the body
What is the quickest way to alleviate my knee pain?
As you can imagine, this very much depends on the cause of the problem! Sometimes rest is necessary for a trauamtic injury, however sometimes exercise and being active is recommended.
Once we know the exact cause of your knee pain we will provide the following:
- An explanation for the likely cause of your knee symptoms
- Tips on how to address or control the pain
- Advice on any treatment that may help you knee pain
- Advice regarding exercises or rest
- Strapping or taping advice, if appropriate
- Information regarding recommended knee imaging is appropriate (MRI, X-ray or Ultrasound)
Are you struggling with sore hips?
Hip pain is a common problem that we encounter within our clinic and varies in each individual. Some experience pain in the outer hip, over the region known as the "trochanter", whereas others might experience pain deep in ther groin that radiates from the hip join; it all depends on the cause.
Is my hip pain stemming from my back?
Sometimes pain or discomfmort in the hip or pelvic region can actually be referred pain from another region, such as the lumbar spine. This might involve pain being sent to the hip region, due to irritiation to one of the nerves that supplies the hip, but exits through your lower back. Our chiropractors are trained to identify and determine whether your hip pain is from your spine, pelvis, or from a structure around the hip itself.
